Apple's October 28 newsroom post introduces the MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display, in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. The chips on this page are M5 Pro and M5 Max. The post does not name an M6. Yesterday's release is the separate 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, and that page describes the Liquid Retina XDR panel.

PROLED XDR is a tandem OLED panel. Apple prints up to 2000 nits of peak HDR brightness and the same ceiling for SDR, a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1, and ProMotion from 10Hz to 120Hz. The gamut covers P3 and Adobe RGB, and Apple says that reaches more than 80 percent of Rec. 2020. The 14-inch screen measures 14.2 inches. The 16-inch screen measures 16.3 inches. A nano-texture option is etched into the cover glass.
Touch is on the display. Apple says the sensor sits in the panel, not in a layer on top of it. A swipe scrolls a page, a pinch zooms a photo, and a double-tap fills a window. macOS turns a touch into a click, so an existing app can take the touch without a new build. A new hinge is meant to hold the screen steady while someone touches it, and the camera picture is stabilized during a video call. Apple names apps that will use Touch later this year, including Notion, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, and Blender.

The Dynamic Island comes to this Mac. Apple calls it the home for Spotlight, Live Activities, and Siri AI. Spotlight moves there only when Siri AI is available and turned on. Siri AI in this release is a beta in macOS 27.2. The footnote says Siri AI is unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS. The Mac is not on that list.
The 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds. Apple calls that half a pound less than before. The 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds, 0.7 pounds less than before. Weight varies by configuration. The 16-inch model is nearly a millimeter thinner. The 14-inch model is half a millimeter thinner.
Unified memory goes up to 128GB. Storage goes up to 16TB. The release does not print a base memory figure. The ports are three Thunderbolt 5, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, and a headphone jack. An N1 wireless chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. M5 Pro supports up to three external displays. M5 Max supports up to four. Battery life is up to 24 hours. Apple says it tested that in September 2026 and that the figure varies by use and configuration. A fast charge reaches up to 50 percent in 30 minutes. The release does not name the adapter wattage for that charge.

Pre-orders opened today, October 28, in 30 countries and regions, including the United States. The laptops arrive Friday, November 6. A 14-inch model with M5 Pro starts at $2,899, or $2,749 with education pricing. A 16-inch model with M5 Pro starts at $3,399, or $3,199 for education. A 14-inch model with M5 Max starts at $4,499. A 16-inch model with M5 Max starts at $4,799.
Yesterday's M6 MacBook Pro starts at $1,999, weighs 3.4 pounds, and keeps the Liquid Retina XDR display at up to 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness. This 14-inch touchscreen model starts at $2,899 and weighs 3 pounds.
