Apple backports siri AI and the find my remote to every existing apple TV 4K

The Die Brief Desk, after Die Brief

Apple is extending Siri AI and the new Find My-enabled Siri Remote to the 2021 and 2022 Apple TV 4K models, meaning owners of prior-generation boxes receive the full software and hardware upgrade without purchasing a new unit.

The new fourth-generation Apple TV 4K ships with an A19 chip delivering up to 50% faster CPU performance and up to twice the graphics performance of the A15 in the 2022 model. But the AI layer and the upgraded remote are not gated to that silicon.

The $59 Siri Remote now supports the Find My app and Precision Finding, and Apple sells it separately for existing Apple TV 4K hardware. That turns a software update into a hardware retrofit: the remote is the only new physical component an older owner needs.

Personal-context Siri queries still require an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, so the TV itself remains a display and compute endpoint rather than a standalone AI device.

Sources: MacRumors, 9to5Mac, AppleInsider, ComputerBase. The hole: MacRumors flags the 8 GB RAM figure as unconfirmed, and ComputerBase notes the Siri AI beta for older models is only "in Aussicht gestellt" with no firm date, leaving the timeline for 2021 and 2022 owners open.

The move splits the value proposition of the new Apple TV 4K into two layers: the A19 silicon (which older units cannot receive) and the Siri AI plus Find My remote (which they can). By decoupling the AI and remote from the new chip, Apple preserves the resale and relevance of two prior generations while still selling the fourth-generation box to buyers who want the performance uplift. The open question is timing: ComputerBase's "in Aussicht gestellt" language means the beta for older models has no committed date, and the 8 GB RAM spec on the new box remains unconfirmed, so the full picture of what the fourth generation actually contains is still incomplete.
