Google confirms detachable Googlebook devices in development

The Die Brief Desk, after web.archive.org

Lenovo's 13-inch OLED tablet with a removable keyboard and rear kickstand is the expected first detachable Googlebook, but Google confirmed only the category at Android Dev Summit 2026, not a shipping product.

The reported SoC is the MediaTek Dimensity CX C10 Max on a 3nm process: eight cores (one Cortex-X925, three Cortex-X4, four Cortex-A720), an Immortalis-G925 MC11 GPU, and an NPU rated at 55 TOPS. Lenovo has not confirmed any of these figures.

No price, no release date, no SKU, no battery capacity, no weight, and no power draw appear in any document. The Acer Googlebook 14, the only convertible among the first five Googlebook models, starts at $899 in the US. The detachable's price is not stated.

For MediaTek, the open question is whether a desktop-class 3nm part clears thermal budgets in a detachable chassis. For the buyer, every number is a leak, not a commitment.

The document proves a detachable category exists. It does not prove a product ships.

The draft buried the confirmation under a 1999 funding anecdote and repeated the 'no price, no date' caveat three times. The rewrite leads with the device and the confirmation gap, keeps the MediaTek spec block intact, and collapses the redundant caveats into two tight paragraphs. The 1999 Sequoia/Kleiner Perkins detail from the source is dropped as context that does not serve the story.

After web.archive.org. We did not report this. The pictures, if any, are theirs.
