GFiber and Qualcomm name 20 Gig customers for Wi-Fi 8 gateway

The Die Brief Desk, after Tom's Hardware

GFiber and Qualcomm announced a Wi-Fi 8 gateway, with 20 Gig customers named as the first group to receive the next-generation wireless upgrade.

20 Gig customers are the first tier named for the Wi-Fi 8 gateway. That tier does not prove the gateway can deliver the 20 Gig service over Wi-Fi, because the document gives no throughput, chipset, price, or ship date.

The announcement pairs GFiber with Qualcomm, but the page is a vendor launch, not a measured spec sheet. It names a next-generation wireless upgrade and a priority customer class, yet it leaves the hardware identity, radio performance, and deployment timing open. For a buyer, the constraint is that the gateway is a service promise, not a verified appliance with an identified radio implementation for the first cohort.

What remains unmeasured is whether the Wi-Fi 8 platform can sustain the 20 Gig service in a home. The count is also open, covering how many customers will receive it and when the gateway will ship.

The document proves a service priority, not a hardware capability. Until throughput, chipset, price, and ship date appear, the gateway is a deployment promise rather than a measurable product.

The document leaves out price, release date, gateway model name, chipset, throughput, and customer count.

The spec gap is the radio path: no chipset, throughput, price, or ship date means the 20 Gig tier cannot be mapped to a measured Wi-Fi 8 gateway.

After Tom's Hardware. We did not report this. The pictures, if any, are theirs.
