Apple CONFIRMED

Siri AI keeps HomeView out of the EU and Norway

The Die Brief Desk, after Die Brief

HomeView stays off the market in the EU, Norway, and the other EEA countries because Siri AI is not on the iPhone there. Apple will sell the $299 screen in eight countries from November 13.

Pre-order is open today in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK, and the US. Singapore starts Thursday, October 15, at 9 a.m. Singapore time. South Africa is through Apple Authorized Resellers, and both models arrive Friday, November 13.

The reason is Siri AI on the iPhone. HomeView uses that assistant for messages, calendar, and a face it recognizes, and that layer needs a paired iPhone that already has Siri AI. A broad question can run without that phone. Apple is not selling the screen where that assistant is missing.

Apple's sentence names the European Union. HomeView is not for sale there, because Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS in the EU. Apple says it is working with the EU on a path forward.

In June, Apple said the Digital Markets Act is why Siri AI missed iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 in the EU. The footnote lists 27 EU members, and Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein are not on it. Craig Federighi said there is no date. Macs and Vision Pro in the EU do get Siri AI. Teksiden quoted a Commission spokesperson saying nothing in the law forbids the launch, and cited Mark Gurman calling about five months the best case for the EU.

Norway is off the November buy list for the same reason. Teksiden reported on October 6 that Siri AI is still missing on iPhones and iPads sold in Norway. Iceland and Liechtenstein, the other EEA countries outside the EU, are off that buy list too. Apple's HomeView post names the European Union and leaves those three countries unnamed.

The UK is on the buy list, and Siri AI is in English there. The UK sits outside the EEA. HomeView follows the iPhone assistant, country by country.

Both models are $299. The screen is a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, from 500 nits in a bright room down to 0.3 nits at night. The tabletop model uses a stainless steel hinge over a speaker base, in silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray.

The wall model is space gray or silver, on Schneider Home mounts. A USB-C wall connector starts at $59.95. An AC wired mount starts at $79.95. A Power-over-Ethernet mount is $129.95 and comes in early 2027.

The chip Apple names is the A18. The post does not print memory, a TOPS figure, or watts, so this piece does not either. Secure Exclaves on that chip wall off the camera and the microphone. Apple says that data cannot be read by the HomeView software, by an app, by the person in the room, or by Apple.

The screen can recognize up to six people. Messages and Calendar appear only when that face is recognized, and a paired iPhone or iPad is present and was unlocked recently.

Siri AI on HomeView is English in those same eight countries. Canadian French comes later, as a free update. A question can run on the device or in Private Cloud Compute. Apple says the cloud copy is not stored and is not available to Apple.

A broad question works even when nobody in the house has an Apple Intelligence phone. Calendar, messages, and the apps on a phone need that paired device.

HomePod mini 2, announced the same morning, is sold in the US and more than 23 other countries and regions, and it reaches stores October 30. Apple TV 4K is sold in the US and 29 other countries and regions, and it arrives November 13. Siri AI on both is still English in the eight countries. The screen is the product Apple withheld where the iPhone has no Siri AI, in the EU, Norway, and the other EEA countries.

The hold is the missing iPhone assistant, not a shop page that left a spec out.
