Tesla AI5 memory moves to 96 GB

The Die Brief Desk, after @elonmusk

Tesla's AI5 memory bin moved from 72 GB to 96 GB, while AI6 remains at 144 GB in the deeper Wccftech clarification.

Tesla's AI5 memory content is now 96 GB, not the 72 GB that earlier coverage carried. The Wccftech clarification is the document to trust, and the deciding number is 96 GB. The earlier page still says "now 72GB of LP5", which makes the two pages disagree on the actual configured memory bin.

The constraint is not a measured workload; it is supply and spec positioning. Tesla moved AI5 off the minimum LP5 bin because being alone at the bottom would weaken purchasing leverage and complicate volume. The filing does not prove that 96 GB is enough for Optimus, nor that the earlier 72 GB cut would have hurt performance. For the buyer, the change raises memory content and cost, but it still leaves the performance claim unverified.

At the fab, the shift from 72 GB to 96 GB changes module allocation, packaging margin, and cost per board. It also changes the negotiation position with memory suppliers, because Tesla is no longer anchored to the smallest LP5 configuration. The record supports that shift, but it does not show yield, power, or thermal impact.

What is still unmeasured is the actual Optimus workload, bandwidth demand, and whether 96 GB changes inference latency or robot behavior. The document names a memory bin, not a performance result. That gap matters more than the headline number.

Tesla is constrained by DRAM supply and spec positioning, not by a measured Optimus workload. The 96 GB number changes memory cost and supplier leverage, but it does not prove performance.

The document does not measure Optimus workload, bandwidth demand, latency, power, or thermal impact.

The AI5 memory bin shifts from 72 GB to 96 GB to avoid the minimum LP5 configuration. That changes BOM and packaging, but leaves workload, bandwidth, and latency unverified.
