The hub is the real change. It supports Matter, Zigbee, and Thread, and a Thread border router lets the Dot bridge those devices to the home IP network.

Buyers can skip a separate border router, but the launch copy does not state how many devices it can handle, how far Thread reaches, or how well it performs under interference.

AZ3 is the only named silicon. The AI accelerator is the architectural change, yet the page does not measure its node, clock, or power.

The eero extender claim of 1,000 square feet is not tested against real homes, so the practical limit remains unmeasured.
The launch proves protocol support, not hub capacity, AZ3 performance, or power.
