Meta business terms add AI scraping for associated sites

The Die Brief Desk, after knownagents.com

Publishers become the constrained party under Meta's new business terms, because associated sites can be crawled for AI development, improvement, research, and training.

The terms take effect on October 30, 2026. They authorize Meta to crawl websites associated with business accounts and use outside content to develop, improve, research, and train its AI products.

Nieman Lab says the terms seem to let Meta reach publishers that promote content across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger without a separate licensing agreement.

The date does not show how much news content will enter training, whether deals with CNN, Fox News, USA Today, and People Inc. are displaced, or what Meta will pay publishers.

No page has measured the number of scraped sites, the share of publisher traffic, the model benchmark impact, or the legal scope of associated websites.

The clause, not the date, moves the constraint to publishers.
