DLSS 5 update shrinks the model and claims lower VRAM
A 16-millisecond frame budget is the part that remains unproven in the October DLSS 5 update.

| VRAM at 4K | 20% reduction |
| performance vs September | 2X faster |
| performance vs March demo | 10X faster |

DLSS 5 was unveiled on March 16, 2026, as a real-time neural rendering model that can run at up to 4K.
The October update cuts the 3D-Guided Neural Rendering model by 24% to about 118 million parameters. It claims 20% lower VRAM at 4K.
Speed claims include 2X the September speed and 10X the March demo speed. The update arrives October 16 for RTX 50 Series cards, RTX Spark laptops, and GeForce NOW.
The 16-millisecond frame budget is the measured limit. The filing does not prove the 118-million-parameter model stays inside it on every RTX 50 card.
A 50% overhead cut and a 1.4X NBA 2K27 gain narrow the cost. The earlier 50% to 60% frame penalty still defines what a buyer can spend.
Full frame cost across GPU configurations, resolutions, and demanding titles remains unmeasured. Power draw, process node, and a cross-card benchmark are missing. Those would show whether the 10X claim survives outside the demo path.
The buyer's constraint remains the 50% to 60% frame penalty, not the parameter count.
The model is smaller, but the frame budget is the constraint.
