Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,599 and ships on October 16. Base configuration pairs an 18-core N1X CPU with a 5120-core Blackwell GPU, 24 GB of unified memory, and a 512 GB SSD. Top configuration reaches 128 GB, a 20-core CPU, a 6144-core GPU, and a 1 TB SSD at $5,899. Pre-orders are open, and the machine is positioned as one of the first Windows laptops built around NVIDIA's Arm-based N1X platform.

A 15-inch mini-LED HDR touchscreen is rated for up to 2,000 nits, and the chassis is said to weigh about 4.5 pounds. Ports keep USB-A, HDMI, a full-size SD reader, and a 3.5 mm jack, while magnetic USB Type-C charging replaces Surface Connect. Article also cites 60 FPS in Gears of War: E-Day. Display details stop at brightness, and the packet has no figure.

Die Brief reads the price gap as the real constraint: Microsoft undercuts HP's $2,999 OmniBook X 14 by $400, but the document does not prove that the base 24 GB pool matches HP's memory, storage, or OLED display. Buyer side gets the 128 GB ceiling as the only local-AI argument that survives; fab side sees the N1X and Blackwell pairing as a system bet, not a measured silicon result.

What remains unmeasured is battery life, sustained thermals, actual local-AI model sizes, and whether the 60 FPS claim holds across settings. No power draw, model size, or cloud fallback number appears.

Microsoft's $400 undercut of HP's $2,999 OmniBook X 14 is the buyer-facing constraint, not the GPU core count. The 128 GB unified-memory ceiling is the only local-AI claim that survives without measured model size or power data.

The document leaves out battery life, sustained thermals, power draw, and measured local-AI model sizes.

The price gap is the architectural constraint: a 24 GB base pool and 128 GB ceiling define local model capacity, while the N1X/Blackwell pairing remains a system claim. No measured tokens, power, or thermal data lets a fab or buyer verify the 60 FPS or local-AI pitch.
